Dhofar was historically known for being a region rich in frankincense and myrrh, situated on the Arabian Peninsula's coastline and serving as Oman's gateway to the Indian Ocean. The Dhofar Governorate in the Sultanate of Oman comprises ten governorates (wilayats), which are: Wilayat Salalah (the governorate center) -Wilayat Taqah -Wilayat Mirbat- Wilayat Rakhyout -Wilayat Thumrait -Wilayat Sadah -Wilayat Al Mazyunah- Wilayat Mugsayl- Wilayat Shalim and the Hallaniyat Islands -Wilayat Sadah
